BCRWI April 2025 Hot Topics Luncheon Roundup
Our Speakers Were Sizzling Hot!
Did you know that we have 30,000 - 70,000 illegal immigrants in Idaho? Or that there is only one border agent for every 175 miles on the Canadian border? How about the fact that about 18% of Medicaid payouts in Idaho are fraudulent? We learned that and much more
our speakers at our April 15th luncheon at the Elks Lodge in Ponderay, ID.
Guests included:
- Kristen Christensen of Heritage Action
- Cornel Rasor, Idaho District 1 House Seat B, Representative
- Tom Cleveland, Oden Precinct Committeeman
Key Calls to Action from the meeting included:
- Vote No on Fire Levies on the May 20,2025 ballot.
Fear tactics are being utilized to obtain fire levies. In some districts, the funds requested will increase property taxes by 200%. If the levies are approved, we believe they will result in regionalization and unionized firefighters in Bonner County. - Write to your legislative representatives about topics of concern.
However, if you are utilizing text provided by an organization, change the subject line and include your email; otherwise, representatives can’t respond to you.
- Provide public testimony against or for Idaho Legislation – It can be done remotely!
Idaho has an open legislative process. Public testimony is allowed at most committee meetings, and speaking up is important. For information on how to participate remotely,

- Get ready to fight for an update to Sandpoint City Codes
The city government continues to create parking chaos. They plan to approve a mixed-use apartment project that includes commercial space on the ground floor facing Church Street, 48 residential units, and inadequate parking. In the upcoming months, we will propose changes to the city code and need support.
